What are website standards?

What are website standards? (image)

These days it's not good enough to just have a website. These days sites need to meet certain minimum standards. Doive Designs work to meet as many of the web site standards as possible including those listed below:

W3C XHTML compliance

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) are responsible for setting standards for the internet. Compliance means that all browsers should display the site in the same way.

W3C CSS compliance

In the same way, by complying to the style sheet standards, the site will be compatible with as many browsers as possible and aids with accessibility.

Accessibility standards

In the UK, all websites need to be accessible by everyone, including the visually impaired. By following certain simple guidelines a site can be made open to everyone.

Browser / Platform compatibility

Unfortunately different browsers (Internet Explorer 7-9, Firefox, Safari, Chrome etc...) display web pages slightly differently. So just because a site looks fine on one computer, doesn't mean it will look that way to everyone.

More Information

We carry out all of these checks as standard on every site.

Click these links if you would like more information about website validation or accessibility standards.

As standard we set up sites so that they appear in the search engines, though we cannot guarantee a good ranking based on these factors alone. Search Engine Optimisation is not a service we are able to officially offer at this time.

To find out more about how we can carry out these checks on an existing website please e-mail us or call 07817 851856.
