The undisputed heavy weight champion of the Internet, aka Google, have begun a series of conferences aimed at getting more Welsh small businesses online.
Currently just 33% of businesses in Wales currently have access to sell goods or services on the internet. This compares with a 39% UK average.
Dan Cobley, Google's UK managing directors addressed a crowd of 400 delegates at Cardiff's Coal Exchange at the free conference on Tuesday, saying "... we want Welsh businesses of all sizes to understand the importance of the Internet and how easy it is to get online".
This launch event, which is run in conjunction with the National Assembly for Wales, the Institute of Directors Wales and the South Wales Chamber of Commerce is the start of a series of conferences to be held in South Wales, with events already planned for Wrexham, Newport, Swansea, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil.
Edwina Hart, UK Minister for Business, has praised the alliance with Google and it's conferences, believing that it will help small businesses to 'access new markets'. The conferences will be followed by a 3 month travelling "Juice Bar" where business owners can get one-to-one digital health checks, check-ups, workshops and general advice.
Thriving small-medium sized businesses have the potential to revive our economy says Ms Hart, adding that "we will be helping and educating many of these small businesses to access the type of support and advice they need to access new markets and opportunities to reach new internet customers across the UK and beyond".
