Blogs: New Year New Website?

A belated Happy New Year to you all.
Now that all the decorations are down, the mince pies have been eaten and you've broken all your New Years resolutions, it's time to get down to business and helping it grow.
Customers ask me, "How often should I redo my website?" and what I tell them is: "About every 3 years".
Why every three years?
The internet is such a fast paced medium, that what was fresh and up-to-date 3 years ago is very much not now. A few years ago a lot of people still used a desktop PC as their main way of using the internet, now more likely than not you're using a phone or a tablet.
It's not just how we use the internet that has changed, its the languages it is written in that are also changing and the standards that all good web developers will work to that have also changed.
What's more, you and your business may have evolved over this time too. What your main focus was 3 years ago, may not be the same today. So reviewing your website, even if you don't actually do anything more than updating some words, is always worth the effort.
