Articles: Why Joomla?

Joomla is an open-source content management system used by millions of different websites for a million different purposes.

A content management system allows you, the owner of the website, to administer all areas of the website using a simple username and password.

So, why do so many people use Joomla?

There are 2 main reasons, and the main one is the cost. Being an open-source platform, it can be downloaded and installed for free, with a whole host of free add-ons, templates and modules to go with it.

The second reason it is so popular is because it is ready to go. As soon as it is installed, you have a website that can do a whole host of incredibly complicated things.

Why then, I hear you ask, don't we use it for all of our websites?

Overly Complicated Interface

The first reason that we don't use Joomla as standard on our website is simple, it can appear overly complicated. Most of our clients want to keep things simple and the array of options available in Joomla can quite quickly become overwhelming - even with a good user guide.

Customisation

Secondly, we specialise in creating websites that fit the needs of our clients. Although for some clients the Joomla system is the right choice, for others their specific requirements mean that an alternative solution is both quicker and easier to set up.

Joomla has been written by a lot of extremely talented developers, but each developer has their own method of writing the code. So customising an add-on to do exactly what you want it to do can be very time consuming - and therefore can become rather expensive.

Custom CMS or Joomla?

We offer both Joomla and non-Joomla content management solutions to our clients. Our preference is our own in-house content management system, but we realise that since you are the ones who will be using the website, you're the ones that need to be satisfied.

In addition to Joomla and our own CMS, we are able to offer Wordpress websites as well as any other popular content management systems.
